The idea behind TechBackCTRL

You should have a say.

In the tools you use. In what they know about you. In the role they play in your life.

Take a more active role in your relationship with technology.

Tech Back CTRL is an independent project by Jonathan Tipper, exploring how people can make technology work for them.

AI can help us learn, create and get things done. The choices around it matter too: who holds our information, how much we depend on a platform, and whether we can move our work somewhere else.

The aim is to make those questions practical. Through podcasts, research, experiments and tools, TechBackCTRL helps people understand their options and try things for themselves.

01 / Understand

Form your own view.

Follow the sources, examine the claims and understand the trade-offs behind new technology.

02 / Experiment

Find what’s useful.

Try the tools. Put ideas to work. Keep the things that make a meaningful difference.

03 / Own your context

Keep your choices open.

Build towards AI that works with knowledge you can inspect, manage and carry with you.

The next step

A personal workspace for your AI.

CTRL OS is where we’re taking these ideas next.
